Alberta Mae Spittler, 85, of Stockton passed away Monday, July 4, 2011 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. Born July 10, 1925 at her grandparents home in rural Kent, Alberta was the daughter of Allen and Esther (Wingert) Herman. She attended Lower Kent Elementary School and graduated in 1943 from Stockton High School. Alberta married Charles E. Spittler, March 30, 1947 at the Kent Methodist Church, he passed away January 28, 1982. The couple made their home in Stockton, working, raising three children and volunteering their support for school, scouts, 4-H and church activities throughout their lives. For many years, Alberta worked at Wright Ceramics before opening Sew Much More Crafts and Gift Shop in Stockton. She enjoyed creating her own items, but even more she enjoyed the many wonderful people she had an opportunity to meet. She dearly loved her family and longtime friends near and far, and she enjoyed traveling whenever possible to be with them. Alberta was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Stockton Unit 449 of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Spittler, Atlantic, Iowa, and Kay (Mark) Young, Sterling, IL and son Mark (Cindy) Spittler, Freeport, IL. Brothers: William (Evelyn) Herman, Robert (Tana) Herman and Brother-in-law: George Erner all of Lena and Sister-in-law: Lola Sterk, Savanna, IL. Granddaughters: Melissa (Kent) Lee of Bloomington, IL and Beth (Greg) Bailey of Ruskin, FL and great grandchildren: Sophia and Mayah Lee and Benjamin Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, sisters Leah Erner and Betty Dole and great nephew Alan J. Pax, her brothers and sisters-in-law Mildred and Earle Drane, Dr. W. George Sterk, and Beatrice and Kenneth Knight.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton with the Rev. Betty Mixon officiating with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Ladies Union Cemetery. Condolences may be sent through www.hermannfuneralhome.com.
