Arnold B. Hammond , age 87, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024 at FHN Hospital Freeport, Illinois. He was born in Portland, OR on June 6, 1936. Arnold married Delores Preszler February 14, 1960, Moffit, North Dakota. Delores passed away in July of 2019.
He was a 1954 graduate of Rainier Union High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force as an Electronic Technician where he was stationed in Rapid City, SD. Arnold lived in Poulsbo WA for 58 years, raising his family, building several homes was an active member of Vinland Lutheran Church. Arnold attended night school and received his bachelor's degree in 1978. He had worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station Keyport, WA for 27 years. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV, visiting friends and family all over the country. He was most proud as his time as a volunteer at Martha and Mary in Poulsbo. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and liked to fall trees. In his final years at Winn Prairie, he enjoyed time with his friends and staff playing Bingo, Scrabble, sharing stories and watching his favorite movie, Forest Gump.
Arnold is survived by his son, Craig (Lainie) Hammond of Pearl City; his grandchildren, Kelsey Hammond (Eric Miller), Kindra Hammond and Kaitlyn Hammond (Steven Dominick) of Washington and his sister, Joy (Tom) Morgan of Spokane, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Beulah (Jay) Hammond; his wife, Delores; his daughter, Valerie; and his three brothers, Gene, Roger and Gordon. Services will be planned for later this summer where he will join Valerie and Delores.
