Burrill E. Coppernoll , age 100, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Manor Court in Freeport, IL. He was born on March 26, 1921 at his home in rural Stockton, the second son of Walter L. and Cora (Belk) Coppernoll. He attended Roe's Corners one room school house located near East Stockton for 8 years, graduating in 1934. He then attended Stockton High School, graduating in 1938. He farmed with his father on the home farm for 16 years. He married Della Mae Dossey at her home near Moberly Missouri on August 16, 1947 and they moved to a home on the Coppernoll Farm where he continued to work with his father and Della taught in the Stockton Grade School, a position she held for 20 years. Burrill and Della Mae shared a love of the rural life and together they used this love to build their own home on the farmland they purchased near Stockton.
Burrill attended the old Morseville Methodist Church as a child and after his marriage to Della Mae, he transferred to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Stockton. He served in many capacities there in committee service, taught the men's Sunday school class, the high school age class for many years, and when any needs appeared, he was among the first to volunteer. He was a fifty year member of Plum River Masonic Lodge #554 where he served at different times as master and secretary. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Freeport, and a fifty year member of Stockton Chapter of the Eastern Star #330, where he served his chapter as an officer and worthy patron. As a pilot, he was a member of the Rockford Hanger of QB's, a member of both the AOPA and the EAA. He joined the JoDaviess County Farm Bureau in 1947 and still maintains his membership.
He is survived by his two children, Mrs. Michael (Nancy) Redig of Tallahassee, FL and William (Lisa) Coppernoll of Freeport, IL; 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nephews Craig Coppernoll and Charles Werkheiser and nieces Carrie Coppernoll and Penny Coppernoll-Blach
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Della Mae; his brothers, Donald Coppernoll and John Coppernoll; his nephews, Larry Coppernoll and Scott Coppernoll; he leaves many friends both in his home town of Stockton but also throughout the state of Illinois who became friends of his through the years of his association with the pilots and aircraft owners of the state.
The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton at 11:00 a.m. There will be a visitation on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m. also at the Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established.
