Cecelia A. Stevens, 83, of Shannon passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 15 in the home where she was born. In Shannon on January 28, 1930, Cecelia was born to parents Walter and Helen (Beebe) Stevens. She graduated from Shannon High School in 1947, and received her bachelors and masters degrees in education. Cecelia was a teacher first in Milledgeville School District and then in the Freeport School District, retiring at Blackhawk School. She was a member of the Carroll County Retired Teachers Association. Cecelia was very active in her church, St. Wendenlin's, and was Sacristan. She also was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Collecting antique dolls was a passion of hers and she was a member of the Prairie Land Doll Club. Cecelia enjoyed her home-grown roses, genealogy, and collecting history memorabilia of the Village of Shannon. Survivors include her brothers Richard (Jean Beyer) Stevens of Sun City, AZ, and Tom (Linda Maddox Graham) Stevens of Sun City West, AZ, sister-in-law Mary Stevens (Richard) Laesch of Shannon, nieces Diane Stevens of Bedford, TX, Mary (Keith) Blackmore of Forreston, and Sandra (Tom) Dunmore of Freeport, nephews Frank Stevens (partner Marina Ovrutsky) of Ringwood, NJ, John (Elaine) Stevens of Green Bay, WI, and Mike (Jody) Stevens of Yorkville, IL, grand-nephews Mitch and Chris Stevens, grand-nieces Amelia and Ashley Stevens, and Kirstin Dunmore, and many cousins and friends. Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Joseph and Charles. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 20 at St. Wendelin's Catholic Church in Shannon, with Rev. Michael Bolger celebrating. Burial will be in St. Wendelin's Cemetery in Shannon. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, August 19 at the Hermann Funeral Home, 37 E. Market St. in Shannon were a Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m. A memorial fund has been established in her name for the Shannon Ambulance and Fire Department.
