Charlene Mae Frey, age 85 of Shannon passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was born October 30, 1928, the daughter of the late Bert and Edna (Stoner) Kuhlemeier. She graduated from Steinmetz High School in 1946 and attended Highland Community College. Charlene married Gordon Frey August 23, 1947 in Shannon; he passed away January 9, 1978. She worked at Micro Switch as an inspector for twenty years. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon and of United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Shannon American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing and sports, especially the Chicago White Sox. Charlene loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Steve (Delores) Frey of Shannon; twin daughters, Tara Heffelfinger of Rockford, IL and Paula (LeRoy) Pilsner of Fort Wayne, IN; eight grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; step-mother, Laura; and step-brother, Donald Wadonly. Services will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Brethren Cemetery in Shannon. A memorial fund has been established for Bethel United Methodist Church and the Shannon American Legion Auxiliary.
