Colleen M. Matthews
, of Lake Carroll, IL, passed away at home June 11, 2015. Colleen's work is done here and she has continued her journey on to a better place. At 80 years old, she achieved great things while she was here.
She was a woman of unwavering faith and character. She loved her family and she loved God. Everyone around her drew from her unwavering strength. You may or may not agree with Colleen but you had to respect the position she took. And if she didn't like your position, the pen and paper came out and she was writing you a letter. Always respectful but always to the point with clear ideas of what she thought.
There was never a time in her life that she walked away from responsibility. Whether it was a grandchild's soccer game, a get well card for a friend or fighting for Pro Life legislation. The idea of letting someone down was so scary that she simply wouldn't do it.
We all want to let her know that we love her and we will miss her. While John, her husband, partner and best friend of sixty years is very sad, he knows the two of them will meet again. Her family is very large and she was always the glue that kept everything together. She leaves behind John, her husband, Tom (and wife Donna) and Wayne (and wife Mary), her two sons along with ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Colleen was predeceased by her daughter, Mary.
We invite you to join us and celebrate her life. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, June 20 at 11:00AM at St. Wendelin's Catholic Church in Shannon. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. Wendelin's Catholic Cemetery in Shannon. A memorial fund has been established.
