Darrell Dwight Roberts, age 64 of Stockton, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 29th, 2012 at home. He was born May 2nd,1948, to Harold and Betty (Balback) Roberts. Darrell attended Woodbine School and was a 1966 graduate of Stockton High School. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1970. He married Sue Coppernoll, his high school sweet heart, on January 24th, 1970 in Platteville, Wisconsin.
Darrell was a current member and many times Past Master of Plum River Lodge 554 of Stockton. He was recently installed Most Wise Master of the Chapter of Rose Croix of the Valley of Freeport Scottish Rite. He was the secretary of Blackhawk Order #8 Sword of Bunker Hill. He was also the Deputy Grand Commander & Chief and Past Grand Chaplin of the Grand Order. He was currently Worthy Patron of Stockton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. He served as Thompson Township supervisor for 24 years and currently secretary of Thompson Township park board. He served as Chairman of the Elizabeth Ambulance board for 24 years. He was currently treasurer of the Jo Daviess-Carroll Solid Waste Agency. He served many years as director and 15 years as President of the Thompson and Guildford Mutual Insurance Company. He served 35 years with the Jo Daviess Livestock Association.
Darrell is held in love by his wife Sue; mother Betty; two daughters Joan Lynn Roberts Henderson and Jean Marie (Daniel) Pehl; five grandchildren Aim'ee Henderson, Seth Roberts, Joshua Dearth, Cora Jean and Rebecca Pehl; brother Marion Roberts, sisters-in-laws Ann Coppernoll and Gail (Warren) Pollard; four nephews, special family Trish and Adara of Portland, Oregon and Josephine Mintel of Chicago, Illinois; numerous cousins; and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, aunts and uncles, and his father Harold.
He was a man of many talents. He had integrity and trust. A man that cared about people, his community, and that ""things"" were done right. He thought it was special when many children called him Santa Claus. ""His hand touched so many lives; He guided us, he was so wise.""A visitation will be held Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 from 4-7 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton, Illinois. A Masonic graveside funeral will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 3rd, 2012 at the Welsh Hollow Cemetery, Woodbine, Illinois followed by scripture and words from Pastor Dottie Morizzo. A memorial fund has been established.
