David R. Christians, Sr., age 78, of Shannon, IL passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 23, 1943 in Freeport, IL to the late John and Johanna (Frey) Christians.

David was a 1961 graduate of Shannon High School. He attended Harmony United Methodist Church in Freeport. He was a longtime member of the Shannon Lions club and recently received the International Lions Club Award. He served as the Shannon Homecoming Parade Marshal and was very active in the Pumpkin sales, he would plant, grow and pick pumpkins every year with the help of his family. David was very active in the Shannon Community and loved giving back. As a family, they participated in Relay for Life. He had worked as a farmer and chemical technician for many years, retiring from CPS in Lanark, now known as Nutrien. He also owned Dave's Spraying. He was an avid Euchre player and enjoyed slow-pitch softball, bowling, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son, David Chrisitans, Jr. of Freeport; his daughters, Ann (Terry) Robertson of Freeport, Stephanie (Steve Pirrello) Maves of Freeport, Toni (Herman) Koester of Orangeville, Fonda (Michael) Masunas of Freeport and BilliJo (Robert Salins) Christians of Shannon; his grandchildren, Lakin, Jacob, Heidi (Joey), Jamie (Lamarr), Ryan (Rayshelle), Steven Jr., Ryker, Miranda, Adam, Tabitha, Kaylie, Tatum, Levi and Alex; his great grandchildren, Hayden, Bailey, Gavin and Ashton; his brothers, Donald (Rita) Christians of Rockford and William (Letti) Christians of Freeport; his sisters, Carol (Henry) Zwicker of Meridian, ID and Joan Christians of Meridian, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Harmony United Methodist Church in Freeport at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Shannon Fire Department and the Shannon Lions Club.
