Delia Marie Townsend's Obituary
Delia Marie Townsend, age 73 of Stockton, IL, went to Heaven during the evening hours on September 21, 2014, after a short stay at her son's home in Indiana. She was born September 26, 1940 in Bedford, IN; the daughter of Lloyd and Lucile Melvin. She moved to Stockton at age 16 to stay with her sister, Carol. She met and married George N. Townsend and together they lived in the Stockton area while raising their 4 children.
Delia worked as an Avon distributor and then at Morgan Memorial Home. She dedicated her life to raising, caring for, and loving her children and her grandchildren. Delia loved music; she and George were the driving force behind the Love N Care Gospel Singers. The group traveled throughout the tri-state area ministering to nursing homes and small churches. She attended the Stockton Church of the Nazarene and the Freeport Free Methodist Church.
Delia is survived by her daughter, Teri Liles of Stockton; sons, Rob (Tammy) Townsend of Columbia City, IN, Tom (Barb) Townsend of Kenosha, WI, and Chris (Patti Syring) Townsend of Silver Lake Wisconsin; grandchildren: Nicky Avery (Johnathon), Jason Morton, Jeremy Townsend, Corey Townsend, Jesse Townsend, D.J. Polzin, Max Polzin, and Emily Syring; and sister, Cora.
Proceeded in death by her parents; husband, George; sister, Carol (Melvin) Meder; brothers, Archie Melvin, and Llyod Melvin; and son-in-law, Alvin Liles.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Townsend Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
