Della Mae Coppernoll, 85 of Stockton, IL, died Wednesday November 16, 2011 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. Della was born August 16, 1926, the daughter of James and Ella (Ballenger) Dossey.
She was a graduate of Moberly High School and Moberly Junior College in Moberly, MO. Della then went on to Missouri State Teacher's College and received her Bachelors Degree from Rockford College. She married Burrill Coppernoll on August 16, 1947 in Moberly. Della taught one year in Missouri, and taught first and third grades and Special Education at the Stockton Elementary School for several years.
She held memberships in the DAR, Jo Daviess County Retired Teacher's Association, Wesley United Methodist Church, and was a past Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her home and family, Della Mae enjoyed traveling. Her travels included Hawaii for her 40th wedding anniversary, Alaska for the 50th, two trips to the Holy Land, two to Eastern Europe, one to Washington, DC, a trip to England, and many shorter trips with their camper across the United States. Della also spent eighteen winters in Florida where she enjoyed the warm weather.
Della is survived by her husband Burrill; daughter Nancy (Michael) Redig of Tallahassee, FL; son William (Lisa) Coppernoll of Freeport, IL; two granddaughters Courtney and Keegan Coppernoll; two step-granddaughters Keelie Oswalt and Shannon Gorham; five step-great grandchildren Jaylynn, JaydaRae, Jaxyn, Mylah, and Derion; brother-in-law Carson Yeager; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
A visitation will be held Sunday November 20, 2011 from 2:00 till 5:00 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton, IL. The funeral service will be Monday November 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home, the Rev. Brenda Morris presiding. Burial will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established for Wesley United Methodist Church.
