Dixie A. Wand, 77, of Elizabeth, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Dixie was born on March 14, 1949, to Harold and Sonya Johnson. A proud Minnesota native and longtime Minnesota Vikings fan, Dixie carried her love and pride for her home state throughout her life.

Dixie married John Wand of Galena, Illinois, on March 14, 1986. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Jessica Wand. John and Dixie remained married until his passing on December 11, 2011. Dixie was previously married to Dan Houy of Galena, Illinois, with whom she had two daughters, Jody and Jolene.

Dixie is survived by her daughters Jody (Jeff Heid) Houy-Heid and Jolene (Bill Custer) Houy; grandchildren Sam (Kali) Hodgson, Daniel Heid, and Calie Custer; great-granddaughter Willow Hodgson; son-in-law Frank Wentik and family; and brother and sister-in-law Dale and Shirley Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; daughter Jessica Wand; former husband Dan; and John’s daughter, Cindy Wand-Wentik.

It was this profound faith, along with her heartfelt love of family, animals, and the simple joys—like campfires and snow—that brought happiness to her life. Dixie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
