Dorothy E. Groen , 87, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018. She was born May 13, 1931 in Shannon, IL to the late Pete and Carrie (Eichmeier) Mohlenkamp. Dorothy married Elmer Groen on August 30, 1953. They raised their family in the Shannon area where she was a homemaker and helped on the farm. Dorothy was a cook for the Shannon School for 25 years. After retirement, she baked numerous pies for friends and family all over the Shannon area and for local Farmers Markets.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Rick (Betty) Groen; her daughter, Dawn (John) Collman; grandchildren, Shawn (Dee) Groen, Shelby (Curt) Johnson, Kara (Kevin) Howell, Gretta (Dennis) Clapp, Ben Collman and Hannah Collman; great grandchildren, Gage, Madelyn, Alaina, Trevor, AJ, Luke, Reece and Mya; and her sister, Lois Swalve. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Craig Groen; sister, Helen Swalve; and brother, Lemoine Mohlenkamp.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Brethren Cemetery in Shannon. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
