Dorothy Jones
, age 99 of Stockton died Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Waverly Place in Stockton. She was born November 4, 1916 in Stockton; the daughter of the late Ira and Mabel (Gishwiller) Peck. She married John Townsend on September 3, 1937 in Stockton; he passed on May 4, 1978. She later married Lester Jones who also has passed.
Dorothy is survived by three sons, Jack (Elaine) Townsend of Stockton, Jerry (Kay) Townsend of Urbana, IL, and Tom (Janet) Townsend of Stockton; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Jane Hebig; and sister, Irma Peck.
In addition to her family responsibilities at home, Dorothy worked on the administrative staff at Kraft Foods and as a secretary at the Stockton Elementary School. She had a lifelong love of flower gardening, was an exceptional cook, enjoyed traveling, was a member of several local organizations and was active in the Stockton Universalist Church.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 9th at 11:00 am at the Hermann Funeral Home, 249 N Park Street, Stockton, IL, with visitation from 9:00 to 11:00 am prior to the service. Interment will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. Memorials may be made to the Stockton Universalist Church, 219 N Pearl Street, Stockton, IL 61085.
