Dorothy D. Mapes' Obituary
Dorothy Darlene Mapes, age 87 of Stockton, IL, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. She was born October 15, 1927 in Pleasant Valley; the daughter of the late John and Laura (Bartch) Beck. She attended Deed's School through the 8th grade. Dorothy married Donald Mapes on February 19, 1949, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February.
She had worked at the Royal Blue Grocery Store and helped on the farm milking cows and feeding calves. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stockton. She was also a member of the Stockton Twirlaway Square Dance Club and held many lessons and dances in their shed. She loved her chickens and had a favorite turkey in the hen house. She would pet his head and he would gobble back. Dorothy was a great baker of cinnamon rolls, angel food cakes, pies, and cookies. She would spend hours picking out nuts. Dorothy was known for making brownies from scratch and homemade noodles. She loved spending time with her family and cared for many of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Donald: son, Jerry (Kathy) Mapes, their son, Todd (Sheridy) and their sons, William & Wyatt; daughter, Judy (James) Schubert, their son Jason (Tania) and children, Christina & James; their daughter, Jodi and her daughters, Samantha & Alyssa: Daughter Janice Kehl, her daughters, Melisa (Alan) Woker and Wendy (Chad) Reusch and their daughters, Kelsey, Kaitlyn, & Kyleigh: and son, Garry and his son Craig (Carri) and their daughter Chloe; and daughter, Erika (Matt) and their sons Asher & Oliver.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Alice Schubert who passed Oct. 6, 2014; son-in-law, Bill Kehl who passed June 17, 2014; father-in-law, William Mapes (July 3, 1985); and mother-in-law, Viola Mapes (Oct. 2, 2014).
A visitation will be held Friday, November 28th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 29th at 11:00 AM also at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established.
