Obituary

Dorothy Leone Osterday, age 93, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, formerly of Stockton, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien.

Dorothy was born on February 10, 1933, in Stockton, Illinois, to Orla and Leland Vanderheyden. She married the love of her life, Lyle Osterday, on May 29, 1956, in Stockton. Lyle preceded her death on May 16, 2004.

She was a graduate of Stockton High School and a devoted member of the Methodist Church. Dorothy worked as a secretary for a Buick dealership and the Rachey-Williams Clinic for several years. Always eager to stay active, she also served as a substitute rural mail carrier and worked as a typist for the weekly Stockton Scoop, along with various other part-time roles.

A gifted musician, Dorothy loved singing and playing the piano and organ at church. As a child, she even had her own weekly radio program on a local Freeport station. Throughout her life, she shared her musical talents at church services and community events. Dorothy was a devout Christian who found great joy in sharing her faith in Jesus with others.

Dorothy had many interests and hobbies, including painting, crocheting, playing cards, and participating in her local coffee group. She was an active member of the Women's Club and the Stockton Heritage League. She especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren, enjoying card games, board games, and crafts together. Spending winters in Florida with her husband, Lyle, was also among her most treasured memories.

In 2015, Dorothy moved to Prairie du Chein to be closer to family. There, she delighted in attending her great grandchildren's events, celebrating birthdays and holidays, and enjoying regular visits. She became a familiar face at Culver's, where she rarely left without her favorite caramel cashew sundae. She also enjoyed participating in bingo and other activities at the nursing home.

She is survived by her son, Garth (Liz) Osterday of Prairie du Chein; three grandchildren, Alicia (Curtis) Redman of Prairie du Chein, Abby (Ben) Price of Lancaster, and Tom (Katie) Osterday of Oconomowoc; and eight great grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Lyle; her brothers, Mason, Norman, and Donald; and her sisters, Joyce, Ruth, and Bess.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Prairie Maison Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
