Duane "George" Brown, age 81 of Shannon, IL, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Mt. Carroll, IL. He was born February 26, 1932 in Emmet, KA; the son of Lewis and Martha (Clark) Brown. He married Jacqueline Weber on September 28, 1949 in Morrison, IL.
George farmed all of his life and for the last 50 years will Bill and Rose Moll, who were his best friends. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening, and was active in the farmers market and craft shows. He loved being with his family, especially traveling and spending time in Colorado.
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline; daughter Victoria (Doug) Blair of Orion, IL; son Lewis Brown of Hillsdale, IL; four grandchildren, Lou Anne (Sam) Preston of Lanark, IL, Deacon Brown of Albany, IL, J.D. (Melinda) Blair of Maine, and Kali (Matt) Smith of Rock Island, IL; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and two brothers, Lewis Brown and Donald Brown both of Clinton, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon, IL at 2:30 PM. There will be a one hour visitation before the service beginning at 1:30 PM. Internment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Good Samaritan Center in Mt. Carroll or a charity of choice.
