Edith E. Heeren
, age 88 of Shannon, IL, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Pinecrest Community in Mt. Morris, IL. She was born December 26, 1927; the daughter of the late Lawrence and Hazel (Schmidecamp) Nowak. Edith married Harold Heeren on March 6, 1944 in Clinton, IA; he died in April of 2010.
She was a high school graduate and completed LPN training. She had worked at Green Giant Cannery in Lanark, Burgess Battery, and Struccto Manufacturing. She then worked as a CNA and LPN at the Shannon Nursing Home and the Stephenson Nursing Center until retiring. She enjoyed gardening and raising her chickens on the farm. She also enjoyed canning, embroidering, playing euchre with her grandchildren and the outdoors, especially camping. In their earlier years, she and her husband liked to travel together. Most of all they loved spending time with their family. Edith loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren especially playing old maid and dominos. She was a long time member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. She was deeply devoted to her church and served on several committees through out the years.
Edith is survived by her daughters, Carol Byers of Byron, IL, Joanne (Jeff) Miller of Lanark, IL, and Barb (Steve) Burke of Mt. Morris, IL; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; a granddaughter; one great granddaughter; one great grandson; five brothers; and a son-in-law.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 29th at 11:00 am at Bethel UMC in Shannon. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at the Brethren Cemetery in Shannon. A memorial fund has been established for Rock River Hospice.
