Edwin Christians, age 100 of Shannon, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Liberty Village in Freeport, IL. He was born January 22, 1913; the son of the late David and Ida (Saxer) Christians. He married Margaret Kaney on February 8, 1940 in Forreston, IL; she passed away May 9, 2007.
Edwin was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon and of the Carroll County Farm Bureau. He had farmed most of his life and had worked for W.G. Byers and Elkay Manufacturing in Lanark. He enjoyed cars, the outdoors, mowing his lawn, and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn (Wayne) Yelk of Bethel Heights, AR and Carolyn (Cliff) Beyer of Parkville, MO; sons, Paul (Sharon) of Forreston, IL and Leo (Bonnie) of Lanark, IL; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; one sister; and two brothers.
The funeral service will be held Friday, December 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon; Pastor Stephen Aram presiding. There will be a one hour visitation before the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established.
