Ellen J. Homan age 64 of Shannon, IL, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was born September 22, 1952 in Freeport, IL; the daughter of the late Marvin and Norma Jean (Wilhelms) Thede. She graduated from Shannon High School in 1970. Ellen married Michael Homan on April 17, 1971.

After high school, she attended Highland Community College where she received her CNA and food service certifications. Ellen and her sister, Delores owned Sister's Diner in Shannon for many years. She had also worked for the Shannon Nursing Home, Shannon Café and most recently she cooked at Parkview Home in Freeport. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and gardening. Ellen loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were very precious to her.

She is survived by her husband, Michael of Shannon; daughter, Becky (Dickie Shults) Homan of Campobello, SC; son, James (Jennifer) Homan of Shannon; grandchildren, Shelby & Kayden Homan; sister, Delores (Steve) Frey of Shannon; step-mother, Florence Thede of Freeport; step-sisters, Connie Greenfield and Linda Irwin; and step-brother, Gary Sturtevant. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation will be held Sunday, November 20 ^th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon. The funeral service will be Monday, November 21 ^st at 11:00 am at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. Interment will take place at the Brethren Cemetery in Shannon. A memorial fund has been established.
