Elmer Groen , 90, passed away April 5, 2018. He was born January 3, 1928 in Freeport, IL the son of George and Helen (Griffith) Groen. He married Dorothy Mohlenkamp on August 30, 1953. They farmed and raised their family in the Shannon area. He was also involved in feed and machinery sales for many years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean Conflict, and was an active member of Shannon American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Rick (Betty) Groen; daughter, Dawn (John) Collman; grandchildren, Shawn (Dee) Groen, Shelby (Curt) Johnson, Kara (Kevin) Howell, Gretta (Dennis) Clapp, Ben Collman and Hannah Collman; great grandchildren, Gage, Madelyn, Alaina, Trevor, AJ, Luke, Reece and Mya. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Walter; and son, Craig.
