Elmer Dayne Rogers, age 69 of Rockford, IL, died Wednesday August 2, 2011 at Home Bridge Center in Belvidere, IL. Elmer was born April 3, 1942 in Orangeville, IL, the son of the late Elmer and Myrtle (Gates) Rogers. He was a 1960 graduate of Freeport High School. He served in the United States Army in Korea. Elmer was a barber for many years, he was also an entrepreneur. He loved telling stories and watching John Wayne movies. Elmer is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline (John) Vallance of Rockford, Joelle (Bruce) Sumpter of Rockford, son Jayson Rogers of Rockford, and their mother Mary; two sons, Dayne Rogers and Leslie Rogers of Rockford, and their mother Carol Rogers; brother Thomas Gregory (Rosie) Rogers of AK; three sisters, Margie (Jim) Swain of Freeport, Mary Lou Koester of Freeport, and Helen (Robert) Bastian of Freeport; three grandchildren, Mason and Rachel Vallance, and Matilda Sumpter; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Polly McCarron, and two brothers, Hugh and Douglas. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton. There will be a one hour visitation before the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Wards Grove Cemetery in Stockton. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
