Eugene R. Nelson's Obituary
Gene Nelson
of Stockton, IL died suddenly on December 20, 2015. He will be greatly missed by his best friend and wife, Georgia, his son Eric (Carrie), and his daughter Jeannine (Jamie) McDonald.
Dad turned 70 in August of this year, was a Catholic convert, a Vietnam veteran and an EWTN Media Missionary. He loved his Faith, his family, his country and was a dedicated pro-lifer.
He and mom enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, logging their small forest together and they always enjoyed traveling. Usually, there was a crossword puzzle somewhere in dad's vicinity. He was loved by his seven grandchildren who followed him like the Pied Piper. He was "Grandpa Nelson" to Andrew, Ryan and newborn Gemma Rose Nelson; and he was "Poppy" to John Paul, Noah, Lachlan, and Katie Marie McDonald. His grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Gene is survived by brothers, Glenn (Trudie) and Larry (Sue), and sisters, Gail Mann and Karin (John) Bradley.
The funeral will be held this Thursday, the 31st of December. The funeral Mass is at 1pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church, located at 223 East Front St, Stockton, IL. The visitation will be from 11am to 1pm and will be held inside the Church as well. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
