Evelyn J. Birchen, lovingly referred to as 'Grandma Birchen', age 82 of Pearl City, IL, passed away at home Friday, August 08, 2014. Born October 19, 1931 to the late Adam and Emma (Baker) Snapp, she lived her entire life in the same home she was born in. Evelyn married William Birchen on September 12, 1953; he died October 23, 2007.
Evelyn was a member of Ebenezer-Salem U.C.C. She cooked for over 30 years at the Pearl City School and helped on the family farm. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, fancy work, baking, and cooking for a crowd. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Rodney (Mary) Birchen of Pearl City; grandchildren, Molita (Steven) Salzmann, Adam (Karina) Birchen, Jennifer Birchen, Andrew (Brooke Schubert) Birchen, Amanda (Clint) Haas, Heather (Jonathon) Stinson; seven great-grandchildren; and several nephews. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband (William), son (Jeffrey), sister (Viola) and brother (Donald).
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Pearl City. The funeral service will be Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Ebenezer-Salem U.C.C.; Rev. Jim Brown presiding. Interment will take place at Ebenezer Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
