Evelyn E. King, age 88, of Stockton, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Provena St. Joseph Center in Freeport, IL. She was born January 24, 1926 in Galena, IL; the daughter of the late Allie and Minnie (Glick) Ganshirt. She was 1943 graduate of Galena High School. She married Eldon "Tuffy" King on February 10, 1948 at St. Mary's in Galena; he died September 4, 2002.
Evelyn had worked at Kraft foods in Galena prior to marriage and at Atwood Automotive for 31 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton where she made noodles and helped with the rummage sales along with anything else that needed to be done. She was also chairman of the American Cancer Society. She loved helping the eldrely and often offered rides to church and other appointments. Evelyn enjoyed playing bingo, euchre, and espically traveling. She loved following her children and grandchildren in sports.
She is survived by four sons, Roger of Stockton, Ted (lori) of Freeport, Richard (Peggy) of Stockton, and Gene (Barbra) of Stockton; son-in-law, Rod Cameron; brother-in-law, Donald King of Palm Springs, CA; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter, Mary; and sister, Loraine Rayhorn.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 6 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton, where a scripture service will begin at 4:00 PM. The funeral service will be Friday, March 7, at 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton, Father Michael Morrissey presiding. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
