Fred F. Thompson (Papa) age 80, of Shannon, IL went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 25, 2017. He was born on July 26, 1937 in Bogota, IL to the late Clarence and Alta (Ware) Thompson. Fred married Judi Miller on November 29, 1985 in Ogle County. "I love you to the moon and back".

He was a member of the Baptist Church. Fred graduated from Forreston High School where he still attended most sporting events. He was an avid sports fan of all Illinois teams (except the White Sox). He retired as a Union Carpenter from Sjostrom and drove truck for Rogers Ready Mix, Jeff Bocker and Carroll Service Company. He loved landscaping and reading books. He also enjoyed golfing with his favorite Packer Fan, Don Schrader and spending time with other great friends, Chase Giedd and Family, Jeri Taggs, Lori Murphy and Selwyn.

Fred is survived by his wife, Judi of Shannon; sons, Scott Thompson of Forreston, Stuart (Lisa) Thompson of Byron, Shawn (Marilyn) Smith of Lanark and Shane (Wendy Beckwith) Smith of New Glarus, WI; daughters, Sheila Thompson of Sandwich, Sharla Buss of Freeport and Melanie Hart (Smith) of Kannapolis, NC; sisters, Catherine Higbee, Marjorie Thomas, Freda Hafemann, Vivian Siekfan and Geneva Duitsman. Fred and Judi were blessed with 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Alta; his brothers, Edward and Vernon; and his sisters, Dorothy, Bertha and Edna.
