Galen R. Heid , age 85, of Stockton, IL passed away Monday, August 7, 2017. He was born March 20, 1932 to the late William and Olga (Koeller) Heid. Galen was a 1950 graduate of Stockton High School. He married Linda Bucher on January 3, 1976 in Stockton.

Galen was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Stockton. He served in the U.S Navy as a reconnaissance photographer during the Cold War then worked at the Savanna Army Depot. He owned and operated Heid Photography Studio in Stockton. After retiring, he worked with his son, Bill, and was instrumental in developing products for self-reliance and off the grid living. Galen enjoyed hunting, fishing, short wave radio and life philosophy and theology. He also liked making his own wine and beer.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Heid of Stockton; his sons, Bill (Kim) Heid of Thomson and Andrew Heid of Thomson; his daughters, Anna (Jim) Bowser of Stockton and Abigail (Doug) Findlay of Franklin, TN; his grandchildren, Tracy (John), Stephanie (Bud), Sarah (Adam), Nicholas (Jericho), Matthew, Skylar, Chayse, Kai, Alexis, Shayna, Natalie and Cora Kay; his great grandchildren, Alexys, Zoe, Asa, Zayden, Ava, Asher, Ivy, Obadiah, Cosmo, Wyatt, Marika, Maddex, Saige Galen, Aiven, William, Gemma and Warren; his sisters, Velda Schoenfeld of Galena, Joyce Keenen of Littleton, CO, Doris Busch of Lena, and Bonnie Anderson of Warren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Olga; two sisters, Linda and Maralee; brother, Sheldon; great grandson Zion and beloved dog, Eli.
