George W. Cleary's Obituary
George W. Cleary, age 86 of Lake Carroll, IL, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 while visiting his daughter in Springfield, IL. He was born December 16, 1928 in Chicago, IL; the son of the late George and Clara (Gauer) Cleary. He married Joan Fritz on May 17, 1958 in Chicago; she died February 23, 2009.
George served in the United States Army. He had been a member of St. Wendelin's Catholic Church in Shannon, IL for the past 17 years where he also served on the Parish Council. His memberships also included the Tri Town Radio Club and the American Chemical Society. George was recognized by the American Institute of Chemists. Since his teenage years, he had been an amateur "Ham" radio operator. He was also an amateur astronomist. He enjoyed trains and traveling to Alaska. He especially loved Glacier National Park. George was a "lifelong learner."
He is survived by his daughter, Sr. Anita Cleary O.P. of Springfield, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; and son, Kevin.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 11th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:30 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon, IL. The funeral service will be Thursday, February 12th at 10:00 AM at St. Wendelin's Catholic Church in Shannon. Interment will take place at St. Wendelin's Catholic Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Dominican Sisters at Jubilee Farm.
