Gladys D. Colbert
, age 96 of Shannon, IL, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Liberty Village in Freeport, IL. She was born July 15, 1919, the daughter of the late Christian and Bertha (Kunde) Peterson. She married Weston E. Colbert on June 20, 1942; he died October 1, 2004.
Gladys had worked as a bookkeeper for W.E. Colbert Livestock Trucking, which she and Westin operated for 35 years. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Shannon and of the United Methodist Women's Circle. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening, and playing bridge.
Gladys is survived by her son Gary (Chrissie) Colbert of Las Vegas, NV; step-grandchildren, Melanie & Natasha Britt; and sister, Prisailla (Wilson) Holdorf of SC.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Weston; sisters, Diana Woods, Esther Colbert, Thelma Parks, and Leona Nowak; and brothers, Robert, Bert, Sofus, Richard, and Russell.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 3rd at 11:00 am at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Bethel UMC and the Shannon Lions Club.
