Glenn E. Manthei, age 81 of Shannon, IL, passed away Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Mt. Carroll, IL. He was born December 2, 1931, the son of Herman and Harriett (Hiveley) Manthei. Glenn married Marjorie Voss May 2, 1954 in Freeport, IL. He worked as a truck driver and enjoyed carpentry work and playing solitaire. Glenn especially loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Shelia (Jerry) Hartman of Mt. Carroll and Sheryl Strohecker of Lanark, IL; four sons, Barry Manthei of Pearl City, IL, Kelly (Leslie) Manthei of Freeport, IL, Jeff (Marla) of Williamsfield, IL, and Joel (Colette) of Freeport, IL; 21 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and his sister, June Erdman of Miami, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, sister, three brothers, and son-in-law. A committal service will be held Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL. There will be a one hour visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 AM. A memorial fund has been established for the Good Samaritan Center and FHN Hospice.
