Herbert S. Hill 89 of Stockton died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born September 2, 1922 in Harmon, IL the son of the late Will C. & Florence (Simmons) Hill. He was a 1940 graduate of Stockton High School. Herb married Pauline Trost on February 14, 1946, she died December 19, 1978, he and Bernece Schlimme-Beal were married on November 23, 1979. Herb had farmed and owned Herbert S. Hill Painting and had previously worked for Orville & Wilbur Wright Painting. He has served his community as Stockton Township Assessor and had been the Road Commissioner and Precinct Committeeman for over 50 years. He had been a 65 year member of the Plum River Masonic Lodge #544, Freeport Comandry, The Royal Arch Chapter, Blackhawk York Rite College, Red Cross of Constantine, Sword of Bunker Hill, The Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Order of the Eastern Star, In 1991 Herb was the recipient of the Lyle R. Melvin Award, he also was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and making homemade ice cream. His survivors include his wife Bernece, daughter Pamela (Bob) Bjerke of Cookeville, TN, son Ronald (Karen) Hill of Wilmette, IL, 4-step daughters; Carol Sue Chunn of Rockford, Bonnie (Mike) Townsend of Stockton & Harriett (Randy) Woker of Freeport,Carol Anne (Ted) Raab, 5-grandchildren; Scott (Karen) Bjerke & Paul (Melissa) Bjerke, Kathy Jepson (friend Felix Arcon), Rosie (Jeff) Kott & David Jepson, 4 great grandchildren; Owen & Tristan Bjerke, Mariska & Mila Bjerke and Ryan Kott, James Kott & Noah Jepson, Scarlett & Olivia Arcon, 12 step grandchildren; Dawn Weber, Shane Townsend, Terry Pilson, Tammy Acevedo, Michelle Long, Jennifer Long, Samantha Long, Timothy Long, Megan Spahr, Joshua Woker, Chad Woker & Eric Woker, Step great grandchildren; Courtney, Abigail, Corbin, Brandon, Lacea, Eleasa, Juavier, Morgan, Rebecca, Jonathan, Robert, Jessica, Triston, Joseph, Alex, Jayelle, Cadence, Trinity, Lincoln, Greenly, Brix, Dempsie, Payton & Paxton and great great grandchild Trinity. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pauline, son John Herbert, step daughter Rebecca Long, brother Robert & nephew Larry. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stockton. Visitation will be on Sunday at the Hermann Funeral Home from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, where a Masonic & Eastern Star service will be held at 2:00 PM. Burial will be in Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton.
