Obituary

Surrendering to dementia, chronic diabetes and bone problems, Ira Eldon "Shorty" Logemann age 87 passed away peacefully at his family farmhouse on November 11 in Yankee Hollow in Stockton, IL.  His beloved farm was a challenge to him since 1960.  He was born to Ira Claude and Estella Darnell Logemann on August 12, 1934.  Nine siblings and Eldon were all born at home in the Stockton area.  He became good friends with Wayne Wand while working on farms in the Elizabeth area.

He is a 1952 graduate of Stockton High School. One Christmas day during his high school years, he fell on a patch of ice.  The fall fractured his hip and left him in a body cast and crutches for quite some time.  Due to his resulting hip issues, his brother Bruce called him "Shorty".  With his big smile, he carried that name for the rest of his life.

In 1962, Shorty married Mary Lou Gaston (Sparkie) at the Middle Creek Presbyterian Church in Winnebago, IL.  Shorty and Sparkie raised 5 wonderful children on their Yankee Hollow farm near Stockton.  Along with pig farming, he worked 30 years at Atwoods in Stockton where he was a union president for some time. Shorty and Sparkie were members of a Euchre club for 55 plus years, and a New Years Eve card party bunch.  His Euchre groups kept a big smile on his face.  He also enjoyed his extremely helpful Yankee Hollow neighbors and farm families.

Even with his loss of mobility and continued dementia, his final wish was granted as he was able to spend his final days at home in the continuous care of wife Sparkie and son Eric.

A big thanks to Dr. Tawfik and his staff.

Survivors include wife Sparkie, daughters Ann (Bob) Rogers and Lois (Jeff) Stultz and son Eric.  Grandchildren Brant Rogers (Sarah), Clint Rogers (Megan Gross), Anicka Stoikes (Will), Jenee, Tomiya, and Nevaeh Stultz. Two great-grandsons and soon-to-be great-granddaughter. His many nieces and nephews were like siblings to him also.

Shorty was pre-deceased by all nine of his siblings, son Craig in 1991, and daughter Dana in 1995.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov 20 from 9am to 11am at Stockton Calvary Methodist Church in Stockton.  A short service will follow. Shorty's wishes would be for all to come dressed in comfort.
