Obituary

Jeanne Fischer Bergman, age 70 of Stockton, IL, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2014 in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 12, 1944 in Freeport to Stanley and Virginia (Read) Fischer. She attended Holy Cross School through eighth grade. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1962. She married Richard Bergman on August 7, 1983 at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton, IL.

Jeanne had worked as a certified dental assistant in Freeport and Stockton dental offices. In January of 1988, she purchased the family hardware store with her husband Richard. Together they ran the store until December of 2006. Jeanne enjoyed her back yard full of flowers. Most of all she loved watching all her Grandchildren grow and watching all their sporting events. During her retirement Jeanne and Richard spent winters in Fort Meyers Beach, FL. They also enjoyed camping and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; daughters, Sonya (Steve) Rice of Stockton and Tricia (Cole) Eshleman of Freeport; grandchildren: Katelin, Jered, & Logan Staver, Addie, Jaden, & Maecee Rice; and Madison, Alivia & Alyse Eshleman; great grandchildren, Kyla & Karah Arnold; step children, Scott (Amy) Bergman of Rockford and Stacy (Rob) Johnstone of Davies Junction; step grandchildren, Danica Bergman, Natalee & Nathan Lones; brother, John (Sally) Fischer of Stockton; mother-in-law, Esther Bergman of Lena; brothers-in-law, Dennis Bergman of Lena and Bill Wagner; aunts, Elsie May Shimanek of Stockton, Louise Casey of Janesville, WI, and Genevieve Fischer of Elizabeth.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Judith Arand; son-in-law, Kirk Staver; father-in-law, Harold Bergman; and sister-in-law, Carol Wagner.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 17 th from 4:00 to 7:30 PM with a 4:00 Rosary Service at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton. The funeral service will be Thursday, September 18 th at 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
