Joan Marie (Grindey) Banderet , age 47, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 surrounded by family after her long battle with cancer. Joan was born on February 21, 1979 to Michael and Nancy Grindey of Apple River, IL. She was born at FHN in Freeport, IL.

Joan graduated from Warren High School in 1997, she continued her education at Highland Community College, and received her Associates Degree for Early Childhood Education. She married Duane Banderet on October 10, 2009, at Little Chapel on the Hill in a Galena, IL. In 2023, she returned to school and took online classes through NIU for Special Education, unfortunately she was unable to finish her degree due to cancer.

Joan worked for the YMCA/YCC for 17 years, she worked until she was physically unable to. She was an active member of the Nora 20th Century 4-H Club for many years. In high school, Joan was on the basketball and softball teams. She loved woodworking and earned many awards. She also loved camping with her family at the Thrasheree in Freeport every year,

She is survived by her husband, Duane Banderet of Freeport; her mother, Nancy Grindey of Apple River; her children, Anna and Dustin Banderet of Freeport; her brother, Jason (Maddie) Roth of Hazel Green, WI; her sisters-in-law, Elaine (Dave) Hullinger of Peoria, IL, and Betsey (Gene) Lashley of Freeport; and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Grindey; her sister, Michelle Schreiner; her grandparents, Eldred and Shirley Rollinger and Clifford and Pauline Grindey; and her father and mother-in-law, Louie and Ruth Banderet.
