John A. Peterson, age 100 of Freeport, IL passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born March 10, 1917 at the farm home in Cherry Grove Township to the late Martin and Anna (Gast) Peterson. John married Vera Toepfer on September 28, 1939 in Des Moines, IA.

John was a lifetime member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ. He was a third generation farmer in the Pearl City area and after he retired from farming he worked as a carpenter and a maintenance man at Lake Carroll. John enjoyed playing cards, woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Vera; his sons, Randall (Joyce), Richard (Janet), Ryan (Debbie), Reginald (Linda) and Rodney (Nancy); his daughters, Ramona Cruse and Rita (Randy) Brinkmeier; his 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and son-in-law, Jerry Cruse.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Ebenezer U.C.C at 2:00 p.m. There will be a visitation on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Hermann Funeral Home in Pearl City, IL. Interment will take place at Ebenezer Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Ebenezer Cemetery.
