John "Jack" W. Houghteling , age 84, of Stockton, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at home.

Jack was a loving husband to Maryann (Southern), devoted father of Stephanie (John) Rappé, Allison Houghteling, Jennifer (Scott) Barliant, Matthew (Jen Kniff) Houghteling, and Keith (Laura) Houghteling; proud grandfather of  Samuel and Max Houghteling, and Arran and Isaak Barliant; and loving brother to Margaret Carlson. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Sarah, and his wife, Julia.

A graduate of Hyde Park High School in 1950, Jack served in the U.S. Army. Jack received his bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and spent a career working in banking and finance, most notably at Park National Bank, Ashwell & Co., the Chicago Corporation, and ABN Amro.

In 1962, Jack married the mother of his five children, Julia "Julie" Gordon. Julie passed away on February 8, 1996.

Later, Jack married Maryann Southern and relocated to Stockton, Illinois.

Formerly of St. Cajetan Catholic Church in Chicago, Jack was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton. Jack enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and listening to jazz music. A baseball lover, he played in semi pro leagues as a young man and was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan.

There will be a funeral mass on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton with a visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Jack will be honored with a memorial mass at Mary, Seat of Wisdom Catholic Church in Park Ridge, Illinois on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m.

The private internment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.

A memorial fund has been established for the American Heart Association.
