Kathleen Schaefer-Blomberg, age 60 of Freeport, IL, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at home. She was born January 13, 1954; the daughter of Walter and the late Barbara (Guy) Schaefer. She married Don Blomberg on July 7, 2004 at the Brule River Forest Preserve in Wisconsin.
Kathleen graduated from Stockton High School in 1972 and received her LPN from Highland Community College in 1998. She worked for FHN for 16 years. She was the founder of Chelsea Ave. Soap & Lotion. She was assistant Scout Master in Cedarville for 13 years. Kathleen loved the outdoors and enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, mountain climbing, bicycling, and camping. She also enjoyed going to the farmer's market, baking, sewing & crocheting, and making jewelry.
She is survived by her husband, Don; father, Walter of Stockton; daughter, Clover Vanderheyden of Santa Rosa, CA; sons, Jabin (Jen) Vanderheyden of Lakewood, CO and their son, Kaivs, John Bottoms of Denver, CO, and Keegan Bottoms of Monroe, WI; step-son's, Erick Blomberg of Columbus, OH, Ben Blomberg of Dekalb, IL, and Mark (Brittany Blomberg of Des Moines, IA; and sisters, Susan (Steve) Heller of Stockton, IL, Sandra Schaefer of Pecatonica, IL, and Laura (Harlan) Melbye of Oconomowoc, WI. Kathleen is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 12:30 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Stockton, IL. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
