Lance A. Jensen, age 54 of Belvidere, IL passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. He was born March 11, 1959 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Landes and Marcille (Miller) Jensen. He moved to Detroit Lakes, MI in 1970 and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1977. He then attended the University of North Dakota where he received his pilot's license.
Lance started as a casket salesman, selling caskets for Brenner Casket Co. in North Dakota. He later worked for a traveling harvesting crew across the USA. He had helped with bridge construction on Highway 1 by Duck Key in the Florida Keys. While in the Keys he was also the 1st Mate on a lobster boat. He then attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, IL and graduated with the class of 1983. Lance married Susan Tidlund on November 9, 1985 in Chicago, IL. He has since owned and operated his family's business, the Belvidere Funeral Home.
He was an avid backpacker; making frequent trips to Montana, Wyoming, and Utah. Lance enjoyed canoeing in the Boundary Waters, MN with his sons and close friends. His other hobbies included scuba diving as a Dive Master, riding his Harley Davidson Road King Classic, deep sea fishing, hunting, and cross country skiing.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Brandon (Dana Woldman) and Colin (Meghan Tonkovic) both of Belvidere; grandson, Colin Jensen II; aunts, Judy (Rodger) Lange, Patricia (Harold) Bartel, and Jean (Peter) Vanroo; and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents
A visitation will be held Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Belvidere Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church. Interment will take place at St. James Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
