Larry G. Ondrey , age 74, of Freeport, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Lena Living Center in Lena, IL. He was born December 1, 1949, the son of John and Shirley (Dye) Ondrey. Brother to Linda (Ondrey) Darm, Bonnie (Ondrey) Bednar, and Donald Ondrey.

He graduated from Streator High School in Illinois. Larry was married to Patricia Dunn and later to Judith Durham.

Larry was a true entrepreneur, owning and operating the renowned Larz Chicken Shack and Larz Catering business in Freeport, IL. His passion for food and Harley-Davidson made him a beloved food vendor at biker events and fairs throughout the Midwest. He even pioneered the first 'Chicago' style hotdog stand in Streator, IL, known as Uncle Larz. His journey continued in Pontiac, IL, where he transformed a train station into the popular Larz Eatery, a testament to his innovative spirit.

Larry leaves behind a loving family, including his daughters, Allison Ondrey Malzone of Elmhurst, IL, and Cortney (Cody) McCabe of Fisher, IL, and his cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Dominick, Alaina, and Lukas. Recently, he was joyfully reunited with a son, Shane Pennington, and grandson, Shane Jr. His parents, John and Shirley (Dye) Ondrey, preceded him in death, but their love and memories will always be with us.
