Larry Walter Pitts, age 79, of Lena, IL passed away Friday, July 17, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Freeport. He was born in Morrison, IL on June 12, 1947 to the late Omar and Hazel (Jacobs) Pitts. He married Linda Lou Hines on February 25, 1967. Linda passed away August 17, 2020.
Larry was a 1966 graduate of Chadwick High School. He was a member of the Eagles Club, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited and the NRA. He was a professional drywaller most his life, including owning and running his own business, Pitts Drywall. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, dancing, traveling, site-seeing, and socializing with his friends. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynette (Jeffrey) Jordan of Freeport; his son, Leonard (Jennifer) Pitts of Pearl City; his grandchildren, Ashley (Mike) McKinney, Dana (Kelsey) Jordan, Madison (Justin) Lott and Cody (Sidney Wright) Pitts; his great grandchildren, Everly McKinney and Russell McKinney; his sisters, Janice (Roger) VanDrew of Chadwick, Joan (Clifford) Freeman of Byron and Beverly Dayboll of Mt. Carroll; his brother, James (Ruth) Pitts of Milledgeville; many nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Kathy Klingler. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his sister, Mary and Edith.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at the Hermann Funeral Home in Pearl City at 5:00 p.m. with a visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Highland Cemetery in Pearl City. A memorial fund has been established.
