Marilyn (Cameron) Philp , of Shannon IL passed away on December 19, 2024 at Liberty Village in Freeport IL. Born in 1934 in Morris, IL she was the daughter of Leonard and Evelyn (Wharrie) Cameron. She graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero Il and attended College of DuPage. Marilyn and Raleigh Philp were married on July 11, 1953. He died in 2003.

Marilyn was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon. She served on numerous committees and on the Administrative Board & Board of Trustees. For many years Marilyn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as the 13th District President for two terms, held offices at the Divisional level, and Unit President for several terms.

Marilyn was the first woman elected to the public office in the City of Countryside, City Treasurer. She serviced in that office for eight years as wells as Deputy City Clerk for six years. She retired from her secretarial position at the LaGrange Hospital. She worked for several years for Robert E. Eden Law Office in Shannon.

She enjoyed traveling, boating, camping, and concerts. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and an Eastland sports fan. Marilyn along with her husband, Flip, enjoyed the years they organized the Pork Chop dinner after the Labor Day parade. Marilyn loved being a part of the Shannon community.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews. Scott (Karen) Patterson of Florida & Lake Carroll, Brian (Sue) Patterson of Colombus IN, David (Nancy) Skerik of Plover, WI, Susan (Brian) Cole of Thornhill, TN, and Kelly (Terry) Paul of Ankeny, IA. There are several great nieces and nephews. Marilyn enjoyed her family, and many dear friends, especially the members of her Tuesday breakfast group. She cherished her best friend, Marilyn Hammer. She sincerely enjoyed the many good times, vacations, holidays, and special events with the Hammer families.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, dear step father Max Andrews, sisters Beverly (Arthur) Wilkosz, Jean (George) Patterson, and Roberta (Thomas) Skerik.

Visitation will be held at Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon on Sunday, December 29th (1-4pm). The memorial service will be on Monday, December 30th at Bethel United Methodist Church at 11 am in Shannon. Cremation rites were accorded at her request. A memorial has been established for Bethel United Methodist Church. A private burial will be at Mt. Auburn in Stickney, IL at a later date.
