Marjorie Henrietta Bourne (nee Kirk) 100, a resident of Beacon Hill Retirement Center in Lombard, IL and formerly of Stockton, IL went to be with the Lord on January 21, 2012.
A spitfire from the start, Marj was born November 14, 1911 in Stockton to Fred and Mary Kirk. Her brothers were Clifford, Rush, Fred and Don, and her only sister was Audrey. Marj graduated from Stockton High School in 1930. Shortly after high school she married Donald Hermann, her childhood sweetheart. The marriage lasted 15 years and they had no children.
A woman not restricted to society's expectations, Marj then attended and graduated from the Swedish American Massage School in Chicago in 1949 and returned to Stockton where she met and married Cyril Lyall Bourne - her husband, father of her children and big band dancing partner. She retired from Atwood's factory in the 1970's and was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. During her early retirement years, she and Lyall took many driving vacations across the country. Lyall passed away in 1994 and Marj began her second retirement that consisted of many part-time jobs, even including making donuts at the crack of dawn. But her favorite job was working at Karen's Restaurant where she always felt like part of the family. Marj's third and true retirement was her final fifteen years living at Beacon Hill Retirement Center in Lombard. She loved being near her daughter and son and the active social calendar - she even served as the Wing Leader in her apartment complex, tour guide for the facility, and made many treasured friends through a Bible study on site. She knew everybody and everybody knew her.
Marj lovingly cared for her two birds - a parakeet and lovebird - continuing a lifelong passion of befriending her pets whether they were feathered or furry. She was also a huge fan of professional wrestling and spent many nights in front of the TV spiritedly cheering on her favorite contenders.
Marj is survived by a daughter Brenda (Ralph) Wagner of Wheaton, IL and a son Brad (Debbie) Bourne of Naperville, IL. She has four grandchildren; Krista (Wagner) (Ryan) Flanagan of St. Charles, IL, Jessica (Bourne) (James) Dalton of Chicago, IL and Michael and Patrick Bourne of Naperville, IL. She also has two great-grandchildren; Caitlin and Nolan Flanagan of St. Charles, IL.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton, IL. Internment will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Wesley United Methodist Church.
