Marge (Margie) Nicol of Shannon passed into her loving Savior's arms on October 10, at the age of 73, after two years treatment for liver cancer.

Marjorie Ann Schreck was born on May 17, 1951, in Freeport, IL, to Oscar and Glenola (Hayes) Schreck.

On June 12, 1967, she married Jan Nicol. She and Jan made their home in Shannon for the 57 years of their marriage.

Marge was very active in everyday life in Shannon. When her daughters were young, Marge decorated them in costumes and helped create street floats for the annual Shannon Homecoming Parade. She also helped coach Stacey's softball team. For many years she also served as an election judge, helped with the local Bloodmobile, cleaned St. Wendelin Catholic Church, participated in Shannon's Hometown Christmas for twenty-six years, from 1995-2021, and organized the village garage sales for 42 years, having her last sale in September of 2021.

Marge was gifted in the kitchen. Her peanut brittle and cookies were in great demand each Christmas. Three times she had recipes published in Taste of Home magazine. She and neighbor, Jim Johnson, catered together for many years. Later she would clean the homes of many of her friends.

In the early years of their marriage, Marge and Jan were blessed to travel. Marge and Jan loved to attend theater shows. She and Jan were Lifetime Patrons of the Winneshiek Playhouse in Freeport.

Marge's heart, though, beat most vibrantly at home. It was there that she was a loving wife and mother. She filled her home with Teddy bears, and at holiday times every nook and cranny were filled with decorations. Her most prized decorations were the more than 300 nativity scenes she collected.

Besides her husband, Jan, Marge is survived by her two daughters: Stephanie (John) Rafferty of Noblesville, IN; and Stacey (Paul) Lidtke of Oshkosh, WI. She is further survived by five grandchildren: Amy, Sarah, and Jaclyn Rafferty; Bryan Lidtke and Kate (Ben) Gucinski and great granddaughter, Eden Gucinski.

Also surviving Marge are her two brothers: Larry Schreck of Loves Park and Dave (Dianna) Schreck, Freeport; and one sister, June (Bill Schmelzer) Schreck, Freeport; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding Marge in death were her parents, two sisters: Eleanor and Dorothy; as well as nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Marge's family will greet family, friends, and neighbors at a visitation at Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon on Friday, October 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

Christian funeral services for Marge will be conducted on Saturday, October 19, at 1:00 PM, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 991 Skyline Drive in Freeport, where Marge was an active member. Marge's son-in-law, Pastor Paul Lidtke, will officiate.

A memorial fund has been established.
