Maurice "Morrie" Townsend Jr. age 81, of Stockton, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018. He was born May 6, 1937 in Stockton to the late Maurice and May (Schubert) Townsend. Morrie married Jacquelyn Lindsey on July 26, 1969.
He was a 1955 graduate of Stockton High School and served proudly in the U.S. Army in Korea. Morrie was a member of the Plum River Masonic Lodge #554 and Isabel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star #322 where he served as worthy patron numerous times. Morrie had been a carpenter for many years. He enjoyed reading history, especially civil war, giving people a hard time, and keeping in touch with his family members. He also wanted his yard, flowers, and garden taken care of the "Morrie Way".
He is survived by his wife, Jacki Townsend of Stockton, his sister, Helen Reed of Stockton, his nephew, James Reed of Galena, his nieces, Nancy Anderson-Reed of Madison, WI, and Karen Arauz-Reed of Sequin, TX, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton at 9:00 a.m. There will be an Eastern Star Service and Masonic Service at 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service closing with Military Honors and Taps. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.Saturday
