Melvin Pierce's Obituary
Melvin F. Pierce, age 90 of Stockton, went to be with his Heavenly Father at the Lena Living Center January 28, 2013. He was born April 4, 1922 at home in rural Stockton, the son of the late Ross and Jennie (Flack) Pierce. He was a graduate of Stockton High School. On February 16, 1946 he married Inez Keltner in the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren in rural Pearl City, IL.
Together Melvin and Inez farmed near Morseville, IL and raised their family until 1977 when they moved to Stockton. He will be remembered for his faith and dedication to his family. He passed on his love of farming to his children.
Melvin was a member of the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren and the Plum River Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed traveling, playing horse shoes, playing croquet with his grandchildren, and attending their birthdays and sporting events.
He is survived by his wife Inez; his children, Marcia Blair of Stockton, IL, Julene (Matthew Grill) Brubaker of Tangent, OR, Marilyn (Roger) Smital of Kent, IL, and Kenneth (Brenda) Pierce of Stockton; 18 grandchildren, Peggy (Mike) Tully, Michael (Christine) Blair, Michelle (Brian) Davis, Ryan (Tonia) Blair, Lindsey Blair, DeLynne (Lloyd) Edora, Jarrod Brubaker, Nicole (Scott) Sheffey, Deborah (Chad) Bremmer, Theresa (Bryan) Snetcher, Bryan (Sara) Smital, Kevin (Amanda) Pierce, Brett (Heather) Pierce, Janessa (Matthew) Plank, Andrea (Eric) Luke, Todd (Joanna Pittsley) Pierce, Monica Pierce, and Grant (Brooke Craig) Pierce; 30 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and sisters, Jane (Austin) Hammer of Freeport, IL and Darlene (Greg) Rowe of Warren, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Zelda Garnhart, Dorothy Eisenbise, Bernice Dick, Jean Dyson, Harvey Pierce; and grandson Robert Charles Blair.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren 12602 W. Dublin Rd Pearl City. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 9:30 AM. Internment will take place at the Yellow Creek Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
