Michael "Mike" R. Grindey, age 63 of Apple River, IL, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. He was born August 3, 1951; the son of the late Clifford and Pauline (Graves) Grindey. He married Nancy Rollinger on June 10, 1972 in Stockton, IL.
Mike was a school bus driver for the Warren School District for 18 years. He loved woodworking and built furniture for Grandpa's Workshop and Grindey's Workshop. He was an avid dirt track racer and NASCAR fan, Dale Earnhardt was his favorite driver. He was also a Green Bay Packer fan. He also enjoyed going to coffee and to his grandkid's ball games. Mike and Nancy would travel together every year while he was in good health.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Grindey of Apple River; daughter, Joan (Duane) Banderet of Dakota, IL; son, Jason Roth (Maddy) of Hazel Green, WI; son-in-law, Gary Schreiner of Stockton; grandchildren, Shawn, Kyle Jo, Erick, Anna, Dustin, & Jaelyn; step-grandchildren, Mercedes & Cameron Schreiner; aunt, Anelene Heidenreich of Stockton; and cousins, Mark (Deb) Heidenreich and Craig (Kris) Heidenreich both of Stockton.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Michelle Schreiner.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Apple River Event Center in Apple River, IL. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Warren, IL. A memorial fund has been established.
