Mildred L. Mathew
, age 90 of Shannon, IL, passed away Thursday, October 08, 2015 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. She was born November 17, 1924; the daughter of the late Lawrence and Emily (Wulf) Hockman. She graduated from Morrison High School in 1942. Mildred married Hubert Mathew on April 17, 1944; he died September 21, 2001.
She farmed alongside her husband until retiring in 1976. After retiring, she had worked for Elkay and the Shannon Café. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Shannon. Mildred enjoyed playing her guitar and singing on the Clinton radio station while in high school. She had a great love of horses.
She is survived by daughters, Donna (life partner, Virginia Budny) Mathew of Moneta, VA, Beth (Norris) Bremmer of Shannon, Mary Mathew-Wilson (Larry Wilson) of Iowa City, IA, and Jan Mathew (special friend Scott Henze); son, Jeff (Vicky) Mathew of Shannon; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Bethany) Bremmer (Chase & Cole) of Shannon, Robyn (Steve) Stovall (Bentleah & Ainsley) of Freeport, Mathew (Charlotte) Edler (Felix & Otis) of Witney, England, Alan Edler (special friend, Kelly Budruweit) of Iowa City, IA, Justin (Amy) Mathew (Katie) of Racine, WI, Sarah Mathew of Bisbee, AZ, Jenna (Cain Mueller) Mathew of Milton, WI, Erica (James) Monroe (Wyatt & Danielle) of Freeport, Anthony (Savanna Jewell) Miatke of Rock City.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hubert; and three sisters.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11 at the Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am Monday, October 12 at Bethel United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at the Brethren Cemetery in Shannon. A memorial fund has been established.
