Obituary

Norman "Romey" P. Niemeyer , age 89, of Stockton, IL passed away Monday, June 9, 2025 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Freeport, IL on April 23, 1936 to the late Frank and Josephine (Bisenius) Niemeyer. Norman married Carol Goldhagen on May 15, 1965 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elizabeth.

He was a 1954 graduate of Stockton High School and was able to attend his 70th class reunion last year. Norman was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton and the Knights of Columbus. He served in the U.S. Army in Panama. Norman worked at Atwoods for over 40 years and made many good friends during that time. After he retired he went to work for the Woodbine Golf Course. Norman loved golfing and took many annual golf trips, he even helped start the Atwood Community Golf Course in Stockton. He was also an avid bowler and Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Norman was a soft hearted, loyal friend and family member who was always there to give a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Niemeyer of Stockton; his daughter, Brenda (Brandon) Lessman of Stockton; his grandchildren, Cole (Cassandra) Bergman of Freeport and Raeann Bergman of Peoria; father of Cole and Raeann, Randy Bergman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sue Brunner; and his brothers, Charles, Donald and William.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established.
