Oradell H. Mers , age 97, passed away January 10, 2017 at Waverly Place Nursing Home in Stockton, IL. She was born on December 20, 1919 to the late Adolf and Marie (Kroeger) Hermel in Nicollet, MN. Oradell graduated from St. Peter High School in June 1937. She married James R. Boys on April 25, 1942 at the 357 th Infantry Chapel, Camp Barkley, TX. He passed away on March 22, 1972. Oradell later married Clarence C. Mers on November 29, 1975 at the Glenview Community Church. He passed away in 2014.
Oradell taught Sunday school and was a Cub and Boy Scout leader while her children were younger. She lived all over the world as a military wife and worked her entire adult life in various positions until she retired in 1991 as a Personnel Officer for the Illinois State Scholarship Commission in Deerfield, IL. Oradell was a wonderful, hardworking woman who looked (and found) the best in people and life.
She is survived by son, Michael H. Boys of Mission Viejo, CA; daughter, Rosemarie O. Magee of Stockton, IL; brother, Howard Hermel of St. Peter, MN; six grandchildren; and step family, Pamela Mers Reidy and two grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Adolf and Marie Hermel; husbands, James R. Boys and Clarence C. Mers; son, James R. Boys Jr., and brother, Clifford Hermel.
Burial will take place at Greenhill Cemetery in St. Peter, MN on Monday, January 16, 2017. A memorial fund has been established for the Alzheimer's Association.
