Raymond Clifford Plum III
, age 75 of Warren, IL (formerly of Fox Lake, IL) passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport, IL. He was born June 14, 1940 in Chicago, IL; the son of the late Raymond Clifford Plum, Jr. and Dorothy (Grossinger) Plum. He was a 1959 graduate of Chicago Vocational High School. Ray married Lynn Drachenfels on May 25, 1979 in Long Lake, IL.
He had 37 years of active service on the Fox Lake Fire Department where he was known as "The Crazy Ball Man." He also served as a photographer for the Fox Lake Police Department, the Fox Lake Press, the Monroe Fire School, and the Flash. Ray also worked for Baxter Health Supply and Dura Automotive.
He loved fishing, taking many fishing trips to Canada and belonged to the Chain of Lake Ducks Unlimited Chapter. He also enjoyed hunting, collecting model scale fire trucks, and going to Las Vegas. He was known to go miles out of the way for a White Castle.
Ray is survived by his wife, Lynn Plum of Warren; daughters, Nancy (Kevin) Russell of Bradenton, FL, Debbie Clavey of Round Lake, IL, and Laura Turner of Fox Lake, IL; sons, Raymond (Rachel) Plum IV of Argyle, WI and David (Tina) Plum of Oneko, IL; grandchildren, Brittney, Sarah, Candice, Cory, Caitlin, Rachel, Bailey, Hunter, and Austin; and great grandchildren, Jayden, Easton, and Cheyenne.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton, IL. There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 12:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established.
