Richard D. Hermann, age 76, of Stockton, IL, passed away at home on Thursday, May 2, 2013. He was born September 10, 1936, the son of Clyde and Ruth (Harbaugh) Hermann. He was a 1955 graduate of Stockton High School. Richard then attended North Central College in Naperville, and later graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1957. He married Phyllis Haug on July 21, 1957.
As a young man, Richard had many jobs including farming, driving school bus, and working at Atwoods. After graduating, he worked with his father at the funeral home, and was a Modern Woodman representative. In 1973, he bought into the Hermann Funeral Home, which he owned and operated until being disabled in a farm auto accident in 1990. He had served on the Stockton Village Board and was involved in Boy Scouts, serving as Past Leader and District Commissioner. He made many backpacking trips to the Philmont Scout Ranch in NM.
Richard was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Stockton. He was also a 50 year member of the Plum River Masonic Lodge. His hobbies were amateur photography and building Heath Electrical Kits. He had a passion for bass fishing tournaments, mostly in IL, but also in TN, MO, WI, KY, and TX. He loved spending time and sharing stories with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis; two daughters, Susan Wickler of Freeport, IL and Lori (Dan) Ertmer of Stockton; his son Bill Hermann of Stockton; nine grandchildren: Aaron (Traci) Wickler of Stockton, Rob (Tina) Ertmer of Stockton, Jessica (Dave) Barker of Lake in the Hills, IL, Derek (Lisa) Ertmer of Vicenza, Italy; and Justina, Jared, Julia, Jeremiah, & Jason Hermann of Stockton; nine great grandchildren: Gabe, Madee, & Bella Ertmer; Kiley, Leah, & Maddox Wickler, Jaymes & Charlie Barker, and Adler Ertmer; and his sister Kay Woolcock of Stockton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter-in-law, Jackie Hermann.
A visitation will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Hermann Funeral Home in Stockton. The funeral service will be Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 1:30 PM also at the funeral home, the Rev. Lee Luebke presiding. Internment will take place at Ladies Union Cemetery in Stockton. A memorial fund has been established.
